Homosexual mother gains custody of two children
LOS ANGELES (P) Two children of a selfadmitted
homosexual
woman will be allowed tc live with her, under a ruling by the suburban Torrance Superior Court.
Lynda Mae Chaffin, who lost custody of her two daughters after she admitted to being a lesbian, was granted a modification of the original custody order.
Three psychological experts testified that living with Mrs. Chaffin would not be detrimental to her daughters, aged 15 and 12. The girls ran away last January from their legal home with Mrs. Chaffin's
parents in Marysville, Wash., and had been living with their mother.
Last Jan. 31, the original custody was upheld by the District Court of Appeal, which ruled denying Mrs. Chaffin custody of her children was not entirely due to her admission that she had been a homosexual.
Cheryl Bratman, a law student intern who worked on the case, said the custo-. dy modification was obtained because the court agreed with experts who said it would be detrimental for the children to be taken away from their mother at this time.”
